Virtex-6 Digital Receivers
PVP cards combine a multi-channel digital receiver with FPGA-based signal processing elements, on a standard PCI Express® (PCIe®) card. When installed in a customer's host computer system, a PVP card provides a complete IF-to-DMA path for receiving wireless signals, processing them in an FPGA, and sending results to host CPU(s) via PCI Express. A PVP card has four input channels, which are sampled to 12-bit resolution. All four channels are routed to each field programmable gate array (FPGA) on the card.
PVP cards are available in various configurations, depending on the number and type of FPGAs on the card. Each is a Virtex-6 FPGA manufactured by Xilinx, Inc. Using a simple application programming interface, customers can access the sampled radio signals, and write VHDL or Verilog code to process the signals. Processed as well as raw data can be sent to the host using direct memory access (DMA).
Each PVP card comes standard with a royalty-free software development kit, or SDK. The software development kit contains all basic board support routines for the PVP card. A simple-to-use application programming interface (API) allows access to all PVP capabilities without writing hardware-specific code.
